Nefer is an old word for perfection. We are aware that is a lot to live up to.

NEFER began with a raw material, not a business plan. Someone put a handful of Boswellia frereana resin in front of us, pale gold, faintly citrus, nothing like the heavy church-incense smell most people associate with frankincense, and the obvious question followed. Why is a botanical this rare not in anything you can buy?

Part of the answer is that it is difficult. Frereana grows on cliffs in the Sanaag highlands, out of limestone with almost no soil, and it is tapped by hand by people who have done it for generations. It is not a commodity oil traded by the barrel. Sourcing it responsibly, with real documentation behind the botanical identity, takes work that most brands would rather avoid.

The other part of the answer is more uncomfortable. A lot of natural skincare is a bought-in cream base with a fashionable oil stirred in at the last stage. It is cheap, it is fast, and it is why so many “botanical” products feel identical on the skin. We did not want to make that.

So the resin went to a British cosmetic chemist with a brief rather than a recipe: build a formulation platform around this botanical. Make the face cream rich enough to feel like an occasion and light enough to wear under makeup. Make the eye cream a genuine departure, lighter, gentler, validated for the eye contour, not the same cream in a smaller jar.

Everything after that is discipline. Safety assessment by a qualified assessor. Stability and preservative challenge testing. A Product Information File for each product. Notification before anything is sold. Manufacturing to ISO 22716 cosmetic good manufacturing practice. None of it is glamorous and all of it is the reason you can trust what is in the jar.

We are honest about where the parts come from, because pretending is worse than being foreign. The botanical is Somali. The formulation, the filling and the finishing are British. The company is registered in England. That is the whole truth, and it is a better story than a fabricated one.
